Paint Pots is a sliding puzzle that inverts the rule every other merge game uses: two tiles of the SAME colour refuse to combine. Only different colours mix, and they mix the way real paint does — red and yellow make orange, yellow and blue make green, blue and red make purple. Two matching mixed colours then burst into a rainbow, which is what you score. That single change turns the usual instinct inside out: herding like with like, the strategy that carries most sliding puzzles, is exactly what jams the board here. Measured rather than claimed — a bot swiping one direction over and over averaged 0.3 rainbows, while a bot that actually chose its direction averaged 22.2. There are no numbers anywhere in it and nothing to read, so a child who cannot read yet can play it from the picture alone. Three board sizes. Free in the browser, no download, no signup.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why will two tiles of the same colour not merge?

Because that is the whole game. Every other sliding-merge puzzle combines matching tiles; Paint Pots combines only tiles that mix. Two reds sitting together are a blockage, not progress, so you are always steering unlike colours toward each other.

Which colours mix?

Red and yellow make orange, yellow and blue make green, blue and red make purple — the real subtractive colour rules. The mixing key is drawn on screen the whole time, as pictures, so nothing has to be memorised.

How do I score?

Make two of the same mixed colour — two oranges, two greens or two purples — and they burst into a rainbow and clear, freeing space. Rainbows are your score.

Is there any reading or maths in it?

None. There are no numbers on the tiles and no instructions to read. The rule is shown as coloured blobs, which is why it suits players who cannot read yet.

What do the three levels change?

Easy gives you a roomier five-by-five board, Hard tightens it to four-by-four, and Pro keeps the small board but occasionally spawns an already-mixed colour, which is harder to place.

Is Paint Pots free?

Yes. It plays in the browser on phone and desktop with no download, no install and no signup.
